2026 Eastern Canadian Ringette Championship Logo Honours the History of Mississauga and Ringette

Mississauga, ON - Ringette Ontario is proud to unveil the official logo for the 2026 Eastern Canadian Ringette Championship, which will be hosted in Mississauga, Ontario from April 16-19, 2026. This unique design pays tribute to the history of ringette and the traditional Indigenous nations of the host city. The City of Mississauga is situated on the Treaty and Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Huron-Wendat and Wyandot Nations.
In collaboration with Visit Mississauga and John Dunlop, Manager, Indigenous Relations, with the City of Mississauga, Ringette Ontario commissioned the logo from Roma Maré, an emerging artist and member of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
A graduate of Sheridan College’s Illustration program, Maré took inspiration from historical ringette logos while incorporating significant elements of her Indigenous heritage. “It was important to honour the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, whose land the championship is being held on,” said Maré about the design process. “I used eagle feathers, a sacred symbol seen on the Band’s flag which forms a maple leaf shape, typing in the Ringette Ontario logo”.
The visual style of the artwork reflects Maré’s cultural roots. “The chosen style is inspired by Indigenous woodland art, known for its bold linework and shapes”, she explained. “Together, these elements connect the event to the land, the community, and the sport of ringette.”
Speaking on the decision to engage an Indigenous artist, Ringette Ontario Executive Director Karla Xavier emphasized the importance of meaningful action. “We are committed to building and strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities across the province, and supporting an Indigenous artist, who is also a young woman, was a powerful way to reflect that commitment.”
Reflecting on the opportunity, Maré added “As I’ve grown older, I realized that making art and being part of a creative space was my life’s calling. This project gave me the chance to represent my community and collaborate on something meaningful. With the trust and support of Ringette Ontario, I was able to create something I’m proud of.”
The logo will be featured across marketing materials for the 2026 Eastern Canadian Ringette Championship and will be available on apparel and as a commemorative pin.

About the Artist
Roma Maré is a Mississauga-based artist and designer recognized for her artwork that features concept-based and realistic styles. A member of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Roma focuses on giving visually striking designs accompanied by a strong attention-to-detail. Her artwork has previously been featured in Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport’s passenger terminal.
Ringette Ontario is the Provincial Sport Organization for Ringette in Ontario. Ringette Ontario is an athlete-centric and value-driven organization that oversees all ringette interests in the province. About the Eastern Canadian Ringette Championship
The Eastern Canadian Ringette Championship provides an interprovincial tournament for teams from Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia in accordance with Ringette Canada’s rules. The 2026 event is hosted by Ringette Ontario and will be held April 16-19, 2026, in Mississauga, Ontario.
